Viagra vs Testosterone: Who Wins?

Viagra or Testosterone?

Let’s talk about which one is best for you….(or your husband) in the realm of sexual satisfaction.

Today we will compare them by discussing the three areas of sexual dysfunction in men: (WHAT ARE THEY?)

  • Erections
  • Ejaculations
  • Desire

  1. Erections – The peniscontains two cylindrical, sponge-like structures (corpora cavernosa). When a male becomes sexually aroused, nerve impulses increase blood flow to both cylinders. This sudden influx of blood causes an erection by expanding, straightening and stiffening the penis.(necessary! For that connected feeling)

  1. Sexual dysfunction is when a man has few spontaneous or nighttime erections or has a failure to gain or maintain an erection adequate for sexual activity.

  1. Viagra helps men get erections on demand IF THERE IS STIMULATION
    1. Works pretty well as evidenced by close to $2 billion in yearly sales. Pfizer.
      1. Especially if impotence is linked to vascular disease where arteries become narrowed as a result of poor diet, aging, lack of exercise, smoking or genetics.
      2. Careful because dangerous with a few medical conditions
    2. Sometimes doesn’t work - . WHY? It doesn’t change the signal to get an erection coming from your brain. This is what getting aroused means, you're mentally ready for sex so your brain sends a signal to your penis to get an erection. Without that Viagra can't help you last longer.

  1. Testosterone increases nighttime erections even if no stimulation!
    1. Viagra might work for awhile but if the testosterone deficiency gets worse, the erectile dysfunction comes back.

  1. Ejaculations –
    1. Sexual dysfunction is when men have decreased pleasure from ejaculation, decreased volume of or no ejaculate. BIG PROBLEM-premature ejaculation.
    2. Viagra doesn’t stop you coming early?– Viagra makes it easier to get erections,(by improving the blood flow to your penis) it doesn’t change the sensitivity of your penis or affect when or how you orgasm during sex. Orgasming and getting an erection are 2 different processes within your body.
    3. Testosterone –
      1. T2 has been know to improve men’s energy level, all aspects of sexual function, and many other important processes in the body including our next topic…Desire or libido.
    4. Desire, sex drive, LOW LIBIDO
      1. Sexual dysfunction – decreased interest in sexual activity or lack of spontaneous sexual thoughts. Researcher Irwin Goldstein, MD, director of sexual medicine at San Diego’s Alvarado Hospital and editor in chief of The Journal of Sexual Medicine. "Many, many men -- about one in five --have such low sexual desire they’d rather do almost anything else than have sex."
        1. Common issues that cause low libido in men are:
          1. Chronic pain or illness
          2. Too much stress
          3. Opiods, marijuana and alcohol abuse
          4. Depression and anxiety
        2. Viagra can’t help here. You may benefit from sex therapy or lifestyle changes and possibly Testosterone.
        3. TESTOSTERONE- is the main driver of sexual desire. It is thought that T2 can begin to diminish 1-2% beginning when men are in their 30s.
        4. "Testosterone is the hormone of desire, (arguably for women as well as for men,)” Goldstein says. Low testosterone levels usually mean low sexual desire.
        5. T2 also plays a key role in fatigue, muscle weakness, and MOOD, Confidence and self-confidence----all which influence Libido.

Conclusion:

Viagra can only help you last longer in bed if your problem is losing your erection too quickly– Viagra can’t help with the following problems:

Professor Geoffrey Hackett, a sexual health specialist believes as much as half of Viagra prescribed to men will not work on its own because their real problem is low testosterone. “One in five men with erectile dysfunction has a testosterone deficiency.
